  Frozen Pipes

Frozen pipes can be a big problem in the winter because water expands when it freezes. The expansion puts pressure on the pipes which causes it to break. No matter the strength of the pipe, expanding water will cause it to break. Pipes that are exposed to severe cold or outdoor fixtures such as swimming pool supply lines, water sprinkler lines, and outdoor hose faucets are the most frequent problem areas but interior pipes running against exterior walls with little or no insulation are also in danger of freezing.

A good way to prevent frozen pipes or keep pipes that tend to freeze is to keep the water flowing thru them. Just a trickle is fine. If you turn on the faucet and nothing comes out, use an electric heating pad, space heater or hair dryer to heat the frozen area.

Most of the time, frozen pipes can be hard to find so be sure to call Tom Andella Plumbing & Heating. We can unthaw frozen pipes and repair any damage it may have caused. We can also help prevent future problems. Call us today at (978) 804-2237 to schedule an appointment!
